At St Heliers Dental Centre we stay right up
to date with the latest dental technology and
ensure the ongoing training of all our people.
All our clinical staff are members of the New
Zealand Dental Association, and we offer a full
range of services.
Meet the Team:

Dr. Neil
Dewar
B.Sc (Natal) HDE (Natal) BDS (Wits)
NZDRE. C.O.P. Forensic Science. (Auck)
Prime interests:
amalgam-free and cosmetic dentistry,
orthodontics, implants, and crown and
bridge procedures.
Neil is
originally from Zimbabwe and trained at
the University of the Witwatersrand in
South Africa where he earned his degree
with distinction, winning several
prizes. |

Neil is
interested in all aspects of dentistry
and has travelled extensively around the
world to improve his knowledge and
techniques. With a special interest in
orthodontics and advanced restorative
and implant techniques, Neil has a
particular focus on Cosmetic Dentistry.
This builds on his long-standing
involvement in amalgam-free dentistry
and the safe removal and placement of
all dental materials.
There are
few, if any, dentists in New Zealand who
have as many years of experience in the
Cerec system of producing computerized
ceramic dental restorations. Neil has
studied further and holds a C.O.P. in
Forensic Science as well as being a
founding member of the New Zealand
Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the
New Zealand Dentists Orthodontic
Society. He also holds memberships of
the American Association for Functional
Orthodontics, the New Zealand Dental
Association and Auckland Dental
Association.

Dr.
Fiona van Heerden
BDS (Otago).
Prime interests:
Cerec Restorations, Intravenous
Sedation,
endodontics (root canals),
minor oral surgery, mini implants
and cosmetic dentistry.
Fiona was born in Picton, New
Zealand into a family blessed with
lots of teachers and moved many
times as a child both within New
Zealand and the Pacific Islands.
Fiona trained at Otago University
graduating with Credit in 1994. |

She was awarded the Lorna Patrick
Memorial Prize in 1992 (best student
overall for both 2nd and 3rd year), The
Frank Shroff Prize in Oral Biology, a
distinction in Oral Pathology, and The
Biomaterials Science Prize in 1993 and
in her final year she was awarded once
again the Biomaterials Science Prize and
the Prize for Community Dentistry.
Following graduation Fiona spent two
years at Canterbury Health as a junior
then senior dental house surgeon. Here
she gained her qualification in
Conscious Intravenous Sedation in 1995
and valuable experience in minor oral
surgical procedures - in particular
extraction of impacted wisdom teeth.
Fiona worked briefly in Newmarket before
joining Neil Dewar at St Heliers in
January 1998. As a practice St Heliers
Dental Centre maintains high levels of
ongoing education for it’s staff and
with the other dentists, Fiona
frequently attends continuing education
courses. All Dentists are members of the
New Zealand Dental Association.
In 2000 St Heliers Dental Centre was one
of the first practices in New Zealand to
purchase the Cerec 3 and Fiona traveled
to Sydney for training in the system.
Fiona then attended the training course
and began placing mini-implants in 2006. |

Dr. Miriam Al-Kaissi
Prime
interests:
Cerec Restoration, Cosmetic
Dentistry and the Challenge and
reward of treating children.
Dr. Miriam Al-Kaissi trained at the
University Of Otago School Of
Dentistry. Following graduation
she returned to her home town of
Palmerston North, where she worked
for several years. |

Seeking a different work environment,
Miriam then moved to a Dental practice
in Donnybrook, a small rural
town in Western Australia where she worked for two years
before returning to New Zealand.
Miriam attends many continuing education
courses to keep up to date with
new prcedures and emerging technology.
She is a member of the ANZSPD.
Miriam is a member of the New Zealand
and Australian Dental
Associations and is working towards
becoming a fellow of the Royal
Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.

Dr. Craig Woolward
Prime Interests:
Especially interested in endodontics
(root canal treatment), Cerec
Restorations and general dentistry.
Craig trained and graduated in 1980
at the University of the
Witwatersrand in South Africa. After
graduating he worked in a private
practice until 2005 when he
immigrated to New Zealand.

Craig
firmly believes prevention is better,
and cheaper, than cure. The continuing
education courses he attends allows him
to offer his patients the best advise
and treatment for dental problems they
may have.
Other than dentistry Craig’s passion is
for photography and tramping……around the
city, taking photos of anyone and
anything that catches his eye.

Angela Endeacott
EDH (Glasgow).
Prime Interests:
preventive dental hygiene,
children’s oral health, periodontal
disease and orthodontics.
Originally
from Scotland, Angela has been working
in the dental profession for 20 years.
She started working as a Dental
Assistant in 1988 and gained her
national certificate in dental assisting
from Langside College in Glasgow. She
then went to study at Glasgow Dental
Hospital and graduated with her diploma
in Dental Hygiene in 1993. |

After
graduating she worked with the Ayrshire
and Arran NHS Trust in their special
needs department, looking after the oral
health of children and adults with
special needs, teaching the carers in
oral health and introducing good oral
care into their daily routines. It was
while working here that Angela developed
her passion for children’s oral health.
Angela moved to New Zealand in 1994 and
worked in Newmarket for 5 years before
joining Neil Dewar at St Heliers in
February of 1999. While working with
Neil she gained her interest in
orthodontics, and became a
registered orthodontic Auxiliary and a
member of the New Zealand Dental
Hygienist's association.
Angela
regularly attends continuing education
courses and gained her New Zealand
qualification in Local Anaesthetic in
2005.

Melissa Green
Prime Interests:
Preventative Dental Hygiene
Practice, Elderly Oral Health &
Cosmetic Enhancements.
Melissa is originally from Canada,
where she trained as a Dental
Assistant with special interest in
Orthodontics in 1997. She has worked
as a Dental Assistant in the UK,
Canada & Europe. |
Melissa
relocated to New Zealand in 2000 where
she resided and worked as a Dental
Assistant in Christchurch for six years.
Her graduation in Dental Hygiene from
Otago University in 2007 was followed by
the incorporation of Perio Perfection
Ltd of which Melissa is a director.
Through Perio Perfection she provides
Dental Hygiene services to a number of
Dental practices throughout Saint
Heliers, Remuera & New Market. Melissa
frequently attends continuing education
courses and is a member of the Dental
Hygiene Association.
